About Dr. Kamalpour

L. Julia Kamalpour, M.D. grew up in Austin, Texas.  She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology and was named a Lewis Scholar as the top graduate from the college of Natural Sciences. She received her medical degree from the University of Texas at Southwestern School of Medicine in Dallas and completed her internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland. Dr. Kamalpour then completed a Clinical Trials and Outcomes research fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and served on Emory University’s Institutional Review Board. In 2009, she was awarded the prestigious Albert M. Kligman Fellowship at the Society for Investigative Dermatology’s annual meeting for her work developing and validating a severity index for the congenital ichthyoses. She completed her dermatology residency at Loyola University in Chicago, where she designed and executed clinical trials studying treatment modalities for acne scarring and facial wrinkles. After residency, Dr. Kamalpour completed a one-year fellowship in Mohs and Advanced Dermatologic and Cosmetic Surgery under the direction of Dr. Greg Morganroth.  After her fellowship training, Dr. Kamalpour relocated to Santa Barbara to join Dr. William K. Brokken’s dermatology practice. Dr. Kamalpour’s areas of special expertise include Mohs surgery for skin cancer, facial reconstructive surgery and advanced cosmetic, laser and dermatologic surgery.  Dr. Kamalpour believes that cosmetic procedures should be patient-driven and result in a natural-appearing enhancement.
Dr. Kamalpour is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology. She has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles and two book chapters. She has presented her research at national and international meetings including the annual meetings of the American Academy of Dermatology, Society of Investigative Dermatology, and American Dermatoepidemiology Network. In her free time Dr. Kamalpour enjoys artwork, traveling, ballroom dancing, playing piano and trying new recipes.
